Well.Where does one start? It would probably be easier to state what hasn’t been done. We imported this from California about 5 years ago as a 28,000 mile 4 door V8 Belair. Sold it to a friend who put it in his garage and didn’t touch it. 3 years later bought it back and sold it to a repeat customer and friend who is an excellent mechanic / restorer. He decided to damn nigh rebuild the whole thing more to his slightly hot rod leaning.
The 283 V8 ran ok, but what the hell fit new shells etc and rebuild the motor (nothing better to do??) fit a new rad and fans whilst were at it.
Ah dammit might as well rebuild the 4 speed manual box so its super silent and fit a Hurst shift . Axle fine but do the pinion seal just in case and put on some anti tramp bars.
Oo we need to lower the front with dropped spindles ,fit an anti roll bar completely rebuild the front suspension , fit discs and power brakes so completely do new brakes all round .
What no power steering ? we better do that , fit new and its beautiful .
The sills have the original drain holes any imperfections underneath dealt with and the whole underneath rust proofed .
S-d it we might as well paint it and retrim the interior ‘cos Im bored.
“Bbutt darling the bumpers need rechroming ” Stumbling from the cost of new exhaust ,headers, flowmasters , new tyres and more other stuff he doesn’t want to remember , the bumpers weren’t done , I suppose one has to draw the line somewhere.
Then to cap it all he decides its too wide for his covered passageway and trades it with us for a mustang .
Now its not concours but if you were in the market for a well sorted, iconic Tri 5 genuine Belair where you don’t have to do just this or just that , can drive anywhere , should last for most peoples lifetime with just the usual maintenance , comes with the original grill , springs etc. Find another one as good value as this. £24950 ono after viewing might p/ex classic bike.
